Ireland – A brief history of nearly eight centuries of suppression, rebellion, and revolution.
When: March 29th at 6:30 PM
Where: Town Hall Assembly Room
From the late 12th century until 1922, Ireland experienced varying degrees of direct rule by England. The friction created by this domination often led to attempts to achieve independence that cost much in the way of blood but without success. Local historian Chris Bielik explores some of the more significant uprisings and the harsh reprisals, from the time of Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil War to Wolfe Tone and the rebellion of 1798 to the Easter Rising of 1916 and the Irish War of Independence that finally resulted in the creation of the Irish Free State.
