Annual Events

Cupcake Contest Join in the fun each fall. Twenty youth and adult participants bake and decorate their best cupcakes for our judges to consider during the Holiday Shopping Fair in November. No registration fee.

Decorate-a-Duck Contest: Registration for this annual event takes place each spring and is limited to 20 participants. The $10 registration fee includes a small rubber duck kit which may be creatively decorated and then returned to the library by March 31st. Preliminary voting takes place at the library throughout the month of April. Final judging of the ducks from each category is done during the Beacon Falls RiverFest and Duck Race. A $25 cash prize will be awarded to the top winner in each of three categories.

Family Day Fireworks Booth: Friends join in the festivities in July, making baked good available for munching during this yearly town event.

The annual Holiday Shopping Fair is held each November in the Lyceum of St. Michael Church. Twenty or more vendors will be available from 10 AM – 3:30 PM for your shopping pleasure. FoBFL 2015 vendor fair booth application is available here.

Letters for Our Library Scrabble Challenge is held in March each year in the Lyceum of St. Michael’s Church. Up to 15 teams, consisting of four to six players, compete against each other to build their best possible board using all 100 letters. Teams of individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate. The registration fee ($100 – $120 per team) includes a light supper. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. A trophy is also awarded to the team with the best organization score.

Semi-annual Book Sales: Each spring and fall the Friends hold a used book and media sale. The spring book sale, which includes a bake sale, is held in the Town Hall Assembly Room (10 Maple Avenue, Beacon Falls). The fall sale is held in November in conjunction with the Holiday Shopping Fair and Cupcake Contest.
